The Wheelchair – Paranormal Nightshift Story – Episode 2

Something Wicked This Way Comes… This is Paranormal Night Shift, the podcast that brings you the best fan-submitted paranormal stories from the graveyard shift. In this episode, we hear from Heather W., who tells us the chilling story of the wheelchair.

Heather grew up in Western North Carolina, and her grandmother ran a boarding house for workers, drifters, and travelers. One couple had been living at the boarding house for years, and the old man was confined to a wheelchair. One night, a horrible thunderstorm struck the boarding house, and it quickly went up in flames. The old woman was trapped upstairs, and the old man tried to save her, but it was too late. They were found wrapped in each other’s arms on what remained of the second floor.

The only thing that survived the fire was the old man’s wheelchair. Heather’s grandmother and mother put the wheelchair in the attic, and many years later, during another thunderstorm, Heather heard the wheelchair rolling around. The next morning, she went up to the attic to check, and the wheelchair was right next to the steps.

Is the wheelchair haunted? What is the story behind it? Listen to this episode of Paranormal Night Shift to find out!

1
00:00:00,400 –> 00:00:05,040
Something wicked this way comes.
This is paranormal night shift.

2
00:00:05,400 –> 00:00:08,600
What’s up, time travelers?
These are your fan submitted

3
00:00:08,600 –> 00:00:10,680
stories.
Since we are the people who are

4
00:00:10,680 –> 00:00:13,400
up at the same time that the
critters that go bump in the

5
00:00:13,400 –> 00:00:15,480
night are, we’ll get right to
it.

6
00:00:15,480 –> 00:00:19,680
This one’s called the
wheelchair, Heather W writes.

7
00:00:19,920 –> 00:00:23,400
I grew up in Western North
Carolina, actually, on a road

8
00:00:23,400 –> 00:00:27,560
that shares your last name, Sir.
My grandmother ran, for lack of

9
00:00:27,560 –> 00:00:31,480
a better word, a boarding house.
Except for it wasn’t one house.

10
00:00:31,800 –> 00:00:34,680
It was a series of houses and
trailers that were all kind of

11
00:00:34,680 –> 00:00:37,600
together in a circle.
She’d rent them out today.

12
00:00:37,600 –> 00:00:39,840
Workers and Drifters and
travelers.

13
00:00:39,840 –> 00:00:43,080
Nobody would stay that long
except for this one couple.

14
00:00:43,120 –> 00:00:46,520
They had been there for years.
The old man was in a wheelchair.

15
00:00:46,520 –> 00:00:49,600
I never really understood why.
All I know is that he was in the

16
00:00:49,600 –> 00:00:53,250
war and now he was in a
wheelchair and the lady was nice

17
00:00:53,250 –> 00:00:57,450
and the two of them seemed to be
so deeply of it was a twostory

18
00:00:57,450 –> 00:00:59,370
house.
And being that he was confined

19
00:00:59,370 –> 00:01:02,370
to a wheelchair, my grandmother
always told him that they should

20
00:01:02,370 –> 00:01:04,650
move to one of the other houses
when it came available.

21
00:01:04,650 –> 00:01:07,290
But the old woman said no, this
is our home.

22
00:01:07,930 –> 00:01:11,410
From what we can understand, the
old woman got hurt, must have

23
00:01:11,410 –> 00:01:14,370
fallen and broken her leg
because that’s what the autopsy

24
00:01:14,370 –> 00:01:16,850
report showed.
There was a horrible

25
00:01:16,850 –> 00:01:19,440
thunderstorm.
She was upstairs and lightning

26
00:01:19,440 –> 00:01:22,160
had struck the house and it
quickly went to a blaze.

27
00:01:22,720 –> 00:01:26,440
Within a matter of 15 minutes
the house was fully engulfed in

28
00:01:26,440 –> 00:01:28,640
flames.
There was nothing anyone could

29
00:01:28,640 –> 00:01:33,120
do and being so rural, there was
no real fire department easily

30
00:01:33,120 –> 00:01:35,880
available.
By the time the fire department

31
00:01:35,880 –> 00:01:38,760
did arrive, the house was gone,
burnt to the ground.

32
00:01:39,160 –> 00:01:42,320
The only thing that stayed was
the wheelchair.

33
00:01:43,000 –> 00:01:46,520
It was at the bottom of the
stairs, seat belt undone.

34
00:01:47,020 –> 00:01:49,860
I couldn’t imagine the agony he
went through listening to her

35
00:01:49,860 –> 00:01:53,740
scream as he climbed little by
little up the steps.

36
00:01:54,300 –> 00:01:57,980
It must have taken every ounce
of strength he had to try to get

37
00:01:57,980 –> 00:02:01,980
to her, and that’s how they were
found by the fire marshal,

38
00:02:02,220 –> 00:02:05,620
wrapped in each other’s arms on
what remained of the 2nd floor.

39
00:02:06,500 –> 00:02:09,340
For some reason, my grandmother
and I never could bring it to

40
00:02:09,340 –> 00:02:12,460
ourselves to throw the
wheelchair away, so we put it in

41
00:02:12,460 –> 00:02:15,920
our attic The other night.
There was a horrible

42
00:02:15,920 –> 00:02:20,160
thunderstorm and I swear I could
hear it rolling around the next

43
00:02:20,160 –> 00:02:22,160
morning when I went up into the
attic to check.

44
00:02:22,480 –> 00:02:25,240
Sure enough, that wheelchair was
right next to the steps.

45
00:02:26,000 –> 00:02:28,520
That is a great paranormal night
shift story.

46
00:02:28,520 –> 00:02:32,040
It’s a beautiful story.
Honestly, you asked for the HR

47
00:02:32,040 –> 00:02:34,120
violation sticker, so we’re
sending it to you.

48
00:02:34,680 –> 00:02:37,240
Please, if you have other
paranormal night shift stories,

49
00:02:37,240 –> 00:02:39,160
please send them here.
We’d love to use them.
